Raising the Bars in Chicago

New spots open throughout the city

This crazy economy has left more folks talking about businesses closing than opening, but Chicago has always been the type of place where the citizens appreciate a good brew -- or two -- so it's no surprise that plenty of new bars have popped up throughout the city over the past few months.

One of the newest entries in the mix is Bull and Bear (431 N. Wells St.), the financial district spot that had more grand openings than you could count last week. The buzz seems to be good, although the crowds will likely still be a little heavy for the next few weeks.

It seems like only yesterday that an afternoon at Wrigley Field could be capped off by some frenzied, drunken, gyrating dance floor action at the neighboring Hi-Tops bar.

Alas, Harry Carey's Tavern has brought a more staid approach to that valuable piece of real estate, but you can get those memories back, as Hi-Tops resurfaced near DePaul University a few months ago.
