Lucha Va-Va-Vooms Through Chicago

Mexican wrestling, burlesque group performs at Congress Theater

Couples often have a problems deciding on a movie. Sure, it's a stereotype, but guys often like the shoot 'em up action flicks, while the gals veer toward the Bridges of Madison County type fare.

That being said, it would seem that Friday's Lucha VaVOOM show at the Congress Theater would have been the perfect date night. The L.A.-based group dubs itself as the perfect blend of sexo y violencia -- sex and violence for you gringos.

This brand of professional wrestling has a huge following in Mexico, and with such a large Mexican population in Chicago, it wasn't surprising to see a large crowd.

But when you really think about it, the girls kind of got stiffed on this one, because most of the guys were in it for the wrestling, and the burlesque acts -- well, that was pretty much for the dudes too.

No matter. Relationships are all about compromise, and Lucha VaVOOM only comes through Chicago every few years, so this was a time for the ladies to take one for the team.

And it looks like more than a few dudes may have compromised their way into seeing "Love Happens" this week.
