Most folks in the know in Chicago can attest that there's a ton of events, fundraisers and parties that you can attend on a weekly basis. There's not nearly enough time to hit them all, so you have to be selective in the events you choose.
You might want to add "Hip Sip" at the W Hotel City Center to your calendar of must-visit events. It's a themed cocktail party that is quite different from your average soiree.
Last week's Hip Sip had a Golden Era (1960s) theme, which meant small bites and classic cocktails such as the martini, gimlet, Manhattan and sea breeze. Wine and champagne were also served, while women shopped for luxury vintage clothing in the big ballroom.
Numerous guests packed the plateau and living room levels of the W Hotel carrying gift bags that were handed out during the evening. And as the title would suggest, the crowd is very hip and cool.
Hip Sips, run by the hotel's ristorante we, will be a monthly affair at the W, with plans to extend it into into 2009. The next event, "Hip Sip: Reality of Dreams," will be held November 7, and is based around a traveling portrait series exploring the artistic side of portrait work.
