Get to Know Pilsen's Art District

Artist's Open House scheduled for this weekend

This weekend is the perfect opportunity to get to know the cultural side of Pilsen, one of Chicago's most vibrant Mexican neighborhoods.

If you were driving down and around 18th Street, you'd be forgiven if at first glance you thought the area was only full of small eateries and shops, but nestled among those businesses are several lofts, studios and retail spaces for artists of every stripe.

The area, formerly referred to as PilsenEast, is now known as The Chicago Arts District, and includes several blocks of artist spaces in the radius of 18th and Halsted.

Check it out for yourself during this weekend's Artist's Open House. Peruse the creative spaces, meet the artists and enjoy performances, music, gardens and probably some free vino along the way.

Pick up a map at 1821 S. Halsted and you're on you're one step closer to exploring everything from painting, photography, and sculpture to avant garde fashion and video art.

Artist's Open House, Friday 6-10 p.m., Saturday & Sunday 12-7 p.m. FREE
