The Shedd Aquarium isn't just for kids anymore.

The fish were no doubt surprised to see the change in scenery Friday night as more than 1,000 of the city's scenesters descended on the spot for the hottest party of the night -- the launch of a new black spiced rum called The Kraken.

The eponymous company is launching the new product all over the country, and the Chicago event came complete with a 7-foot fog wall -- that proved to be very popular with the crowd -- a performance by the Platinum Events dance team, an impressive gift bag (free Fossil watch!) and of course, all the Kraken you cared to drink.

In another part of downtown, the fashion forward set converged at the Lyric Opera of Chicago, which teamed up with AKIRA for a style showcase dubbed "Misterioso."

Call it a fashion mashup; the Lyric opened its vault of historic costumes and mixed them with labels such as Ben Sherman, J. Lindeberg and AKIRA on the runway.

The 1500s never looked so good.
