A man remains sedated but his condition upgraded to "stable" after he was thrown out of his car in an accident earlier in the day on the Dan Ryan Expressway and fell 125 feet into a railyard below.
A witness said it "looked like something out of a movie." A woman said she told police that she saw something go over the railing, but she wasn't sure what it was.
Illinois State Police say the man fell from an overpass on the expressway after crashing his car.
State Police Master Sgt. Joe Stangl said the 20-year-old was driving south on the expressway shortly after midnight Tuesday when his car door flew open. As he struggled to pull the door shut, the car struck a wall by the 25th Street bridge, and the man was ejected.
Stangl said the man fell and landed in a rail yard below the bridge, but he was still conscious and able to talk to officers at the scene.
Workers in the rail yard called 911 after they saw him land and he was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County. He was conscious on the scene and doctors at the hospital reported that his injuries are not life threatening.
Stangl said the man was taken to Stroger Hospital, but his injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.
