We Wanna See Your Fugly Couch

A national online contest goes searching for the world's ugliest couch

The World's Ugliest Couch Contest 2009 is currently underway, with photos of disgusting davenports, sickening sofas and quite possibly contaminated settees poring in to the competition's hilarious Web site. The good-spirited (but probably bad-smelling) tournament of fugly furnishings is sponsored by Simply Spray, an eco-friendly fabric spray paint. Seriously, we can't make this stuff up.

The winner (?) of the World's Ugliest Couch Contest will walk away with $500 (can we suggest a truckload of Febreeze?), plus a couch makeover utilizing the ingenious Simply Spray products, presumably to recycle and revive that heap of upholstery and stuffing into something presentable. (A second-place prize of six cans of Simply Spray will go to the slightly less vile runner up.)

Entries are being accepted now through July 4, so you have enough time to rough up that grody sofa even more, take a digital photo and upload it -- along with a few descriptive words about its overall grossness -- to the site. Online votes will crown the victorious couch, which will be announced on Sept. 4. Just clicking through the contest Web site -- especially the videos section replete with sappy goodbye songs -- is an enjoyable time suck.

The World's Ugliest Couch Contest has been held since 2004, but this is the first year Simply Spray has gotten involved to sponsor the competition and offer the prize package (before it was just for bragging rights). Seems like a match made in hideous heaven.
