Shivering for Special Olympics

Bitter cold didn't keep volunteers from making a splash

The few, the proud and the really, really cold stepped up on Sunday to take a dip in the icy waters of Lake Michigan.

Perhaps the crazy?

Dressed in all sorts of colorful garb and making all the noise they could muster, dozens dashed into the water for the Chicago Park District's annual "Polar Plunge."

For the ninth year running (no fatalities yet), a group of volunteers participated in the benefit for the Special Olympics.
