A 17-year-old girl has been charged in a fatal Bartlett crash that killed two South Elgin High School students, including a relative, and wounded a third, prosecutors announced Thursday.

Officials say a preliminary investigation has determined the cause of a deadly crash that killed two South Elgin high school students, wounded two others and left a third person injured last week.

A memorial complete with flowers and stuffed animals continued to grow outside of South Elgin High School on Friday evening, one day after two students were killed in a collision while heading to school.

Two South Elgin High School students were killed and three other people were injured Thursday morning following a motor vehicle crash involving a 2002 Honda Civic and semi-tractor trailer in Bartlett, police said.

The crash occurred at approximately 7 a.m. Thursday at the intersection of IL Route 25 and Kenyon Road, officials said.

Storm damage was widespread across the Elgin area, with the National Weather Service confirming a tornado in the Campton Hills and South Elgin area, NBC Chicago’s Evrod Cassimy reports.
