“All of us agreed that lobbying is necessary for our legislators to be educated,” juror Amanda Schnitker Sayers told reporters Tuesday. “This is not lobbying. The defense did very well, to try to prove that this was all normal course of business, did not sit well with us.”

A federal jury in Chicago has convicted four individuals in a wide-ranging scheme to bribe former Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan, arranging more than $1 million in payments to associates in efforts to obtain favorable legislation for ComEd, the state’s largest utility company.

The jury began deliberations in the “ComEd 4” bribery trial on Tuesday, NBC 5’s Charlie Wojciechowski reports.
