Matthew Gordon, a 16-year-old junior at Deerfield High School, transformed his lockdown boredom into a passion for crafting over 15 life-like Halloween animatronics for an impressive yard display and haunted house from recycled materials.

A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle early Sunday morning in suburban Deerfield, authorities said. The collision was reported at around 7:19 a.m. near Robert York and Osterman avenues.
