Students from local universities receive awards for their volunteer work and see a performance by actress and performer Anna Deavere Smith.

Actress Anna Deavere Smith performed during the event. True to her longstanding tradition of performing multiple roles in a single presentation, she graced the audience with a number of creative character presentations, including the late Studs Terkel.
