Vive la Hispanidad: 7th Annual Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration
The event closes Hispanic Heritage Month with artists, literature, entertainment, music and tasting of traditional and contemporary Latin cuisine at Germania Place in Chicago's Gold Coast.

Mexican Independence Day Parade
The annual parade steps off at Columbus Drive in Grant Park and this year will feature Chicago schools, local businesses, artists and more.
When: Sept. 10

Festival de la Villita
The 22nd annual, three-day Festival de La Vilita (Little Village Festival) celebrates Mexico's independence from Spain with 100 vendors and local restaurants, dance lessons and live music.
When: Sept. 9-11 at at 2600 S. Kostner

26th Street Parade
Coined by the city as one of the most colorful parade in Chicago, this Mexican Independence Parade celebrates with floats, mariachi bands, dancing in the streets and more.
When: Noon Sept. 11, proceeding west on 26th Street to Kostner

21st Annual Hispanic Heritage Essay Contest Award Ceremonies
Hosted by the Hispanic Heritage Organization, the Illinois contest showcases work by students in grades 4-12 under the theme of "The Importance of Education for Latino Children and Adults." Twelve winners will be selected.

The three-part program hosted by McCormick’s Center for the Study of Latin@ Theology and Ministry commemorates a turbulent moment in the seminary’s history.

Chicago White Sox Hispanic Heritage Night & Fireworks

The White Sox honor Hispanic Heritage with special musical performances and other events during their game against the Kansas City Royals. The National Anthem will be sung by Chicago native Roze Red. After the game, fans can enjoy a fireworks display.

Chicago Public Library

Chicago Public Library celebrates diversity with its annual Hispanic Heritage Month program. All month, the CPL will host events for the young and old focusing on the Hispanic culture. Events include but not limited to bilingual storytelling, ballet shows, book discussion, Jarochicanos: celebration of music, dance, and lyrical poetry.

When: Sept. 22 through Oct. 20th.

CoLaboratory

Columbia College hosts CoLaboratory, a exhibition featuring collaborative art projects. Work presented by ED JR. and (ƒ)utility members Paola Cabal and Edra Soto will be on display. The artists will host a lecture, "The Uncommon Nature of Artists as Collaborators" at the Conaway Center on Monday, September 26th. The artists will discuss how experiences as Latinas and integration of heritage influence the work.

Mujeres

Hispanic Heritage Month highlights Latinas through the power of dance. The Luna Negra Dance Theater celebrates painter Frida Kahlo, photographer Graciela Iturbide, and former Spanish Queen Juana la Loca through contemporary styles and cultural influences. Works by artistic director Gustavo Ramírez Sansano and Asun Noales are featured. Tickets are available from Harris Theater at Millennium Park.

Facebooked & Fingerprinted

Salsation Theater Company brings "comedy with a Latin Flavor" to its show Facebooked & Fingerprinted. The show highlights relationships with a Latino perspective and changes to the family dynamic concerning heritage. Next show available at Columbia College at Stage Two on the second floor of the South Michigan Avenue campus. Event is free.
