Petty grew up in Burr Ridge and went to Lyons Township High School. She holds a master’s degree in journalism from Northwestern University and a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Petty and her husband, a Hinsdale native, are thrilled to bring their two young daughters back to Chicago where they can be surrounded by family and friends.
