She currently anchors weekend evening newscasts and reports during the week. Prior to WVIT, Petty worked at WICD in Champaign, Illinois, and CNN International in London as a Field Producer and Desk Assistant.
“Lauren grew up in the Chicago suburbs and has many relatives here who are overjoyed to hear she is coming home,” said Frank Whittaker, Station Manager and Vice President of News at NBC 5. “Lauren is a great addition to our team and we are thrilled to introduce her to our viewers.”
Petty grew up in Burr Ridge and went to Lyons Township High School. She holds a master’s degree in journalism from Northwestern University and a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Petty and her husband, a Hinsdale native, are thrilled to bring their two young daughters back to Chicago where they can be surrounded by family and friends.
