Armed Robber Snatches Pet Parrot “Cuca” from Woman's Hands: Police

Police are searching for Cuca, a parrot that was stolen from a Bronx woman, then sold

A robber snatched a pet parrot out a woman's hands inside her Bronx apartment building Monday, then fled and sold the bird, which is now being sought by police.

The 67-year-old owner was followed into her Tremont building by the suspect at about 3 p.m. Monday afternoon as she carried Cuca, according to police. The robber rode the elevator with the victim, and got out with her on her floor.

Once in the hallway, the suspect, believed to be armed with a gun, took the parrot from the owner and ran out the building, police said. The woman called 911, and authorities were able to track the suspect's exit from the building with a camera system and later identify him.

When police interviewed the suspect Tuesday, he confessed to robbing the woman of her parrot and said he sold it.

Darryyl Walker, 53, on parole for robbery, was charged with robbery, grand larceny, menacing and criminal possession of a weapon, police said. Attorney information wasn't immediately available.

Police are now searching for Cuca; below is a picture of a bird similar to the stolen parrot. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS.
