Tramon Williams Throws Serious Shade at Mitchell Trubisky After Bears' Loss

Chicago Bears quarterback Mitchell Trubisky had a rough season-opening game against the Green Bay Packers on Thursday night, and one of his opponents had some comments that might rankle Bears fans.

Trubisky, who threw for 228 yards in the game, was picked off in the end zone by former Bears safety Adrian Amos in the closing stages of the game and couldn’t generate a comeback drive late in the contest.

Following the game, Packers cornerback Tramon Williams said that the team’s strategy against the Bears was simple: let Trubisky’s mistakes doom the Bears.

“We wanted to make Mitch play quarterback,” he said after the game. “We knew they had a lot of weapons, we knew they were dangerous, we knew all of those things. But we knew if we could make Mitch play quarterback, that we’d have a chance.”

Trubisky is entering his third year in the NFL, and he could be in line for a lucrative contract extension if he can put together a good season. Even still, the pressure is on the quarterback as the other players taken after him in the 2017 NFL Draft, namely Deshaun Watson and Patrick Mahomes, have already had very good seasons under their belts, and Williams’ comments indicate that NFL teams aren’t expecting a breakout from Trubisky.

Trubisky conceded after Thursday’s game that he had let his team and the fans down, and head coach Matt Nagy called the offensive effort, which saw the Bears only score three points, “unacceptable.”

The Bears will have plenty of time to right the ship before their Week 2 game against the Denver Broncos, as the game isn’t scheduled until Sept. 15.
