Prep Destination Winner: Lyons Twp. at Loyola Academy

NBC 5 News Today will broadcast live from Loyola Academy on Friday morning

In the closest vote in the segment's history, fans of Loyola and Lyons Township took the lead for good with just six minutes remaining in the poll to earn the right to host the NBC 5 Prep Destination of the Week.

A mere 40-vote cushion on our Facebook poll gave Lyons-Loyola the record-low 0.3% margin of victory (41.8-41.5), tightening the mark set by the Fremd-Conant margin over Marian Catholic-St. Patrick in September.

NBC 5 News Today will bring its' cameras to Loyola Academy in Wilmette early Friday morning to highlight the football game of the week after edging Homewood-Flossmoor at Naperville Central. The Marian Central and Montini game finished in 3rd place.

This will be Loyola's first appearance in the shows feature. Lyons Township was featured last season ahead of its Class 8A 2nd Round win over Sandburg.

Former NFL player John Holecek is hoping to direct the Ramblers into the semifinals for the third straight year. With eyes on its first state title since 1993, the 29-0 win over Dunbar was Loyola's second straight shutout and offensively it featured another sharp outing from Catholic League Blue Player of the Year Malcolm Weaver, 270 yards passing and three touchdowns.

The Lions enter the quarterfinals for the 2nd straight year and on an emotional roller coaster following the death of freshmen classmate Kelli O'Laughlin. The Lions rallied down 14 points to win in overtime 34-31 over Glenbrook South thanks to five touchdowns and 174 yards rushing from senior Jamie Jones.

Ramblers, head over to Loyola early and be ready to cheer! Bring your signs and your school spirit! and be ready to show us your moves on our "Dance Friday" segment.
