Predators goaltender Rinne leads NHL's Three Stars

New York, NY (Sports Network) - Nashville Predators netminder Pekka Rinne, Chicago Blackhawks forward Jonathan Toews and Ottawa Senators forward Jason Spezza were tabbed the NHL's Three Stars for the week ending December 7.

Rinne emerged from the shadow of starter Dan Ellis and posted a 3-0-0 record while allowing only two goals over those three starts. He posted his first career shutout on December 1 at Buffalo, followed by a 3-2 win over Colorado three days later, and concluded the run by blanking Minnesota, 1-0, on Saturday.

For the season, the 26-year-old Fin is 6-0-0 with a 2.25 goals-against average.

Toews earned second star with six points (4G, 2A) in three games during the week, recording multiple points in each. He posted the game-winning goals in Chicago's 4-2 win over Anaheim on December 3 and also in the Hawks' 7-1 blowout victory over Phoenix on Sunday. Toews added a pair of goals in a 5-4 shootout loss at Detroit on Saturday.

The 20-year-old has collected eight goals and 22 points in 25 games this season.

Spezza picked up third star by recording four goals over the Senators' pair of games last week. The sixth-year pro tallied one goal in Ottawa's 5-1 drubbing of Atlanta on December 3, then earned his second career hat trick by scoring all his team's goals in a 3-2 win against Pittsburgh on Saturday.
