Wrigleyville rooftops open for Cubs home games in 2020, report says

The City of Chicago has approved the opening of Wrigleyville rooftops at 25 percent capacity for Cubs home games this season, WGN's Josh Frydman reported Wednesday.

Tickets are expected to go on sale when MLB releases the 2020 schedule, which is expected to come in the next week or so.

Last week, Cubs president of business operations Crane Kenney said the Cubs expect the rooftops to be open this season and hope for stadium seating to open at limited capacity. However, Mayor Lori Lightfoot said stadiums would open without fans in the short-term and even 20 percent capacity at Wrigley Field would necessitate a viable safety plan.

"That's a lot of folks," Lightfoot said June 25, "and that obviously exceeds both city and state caps on venues and capacity. But fundamentally, whether it's 8,000 or 800 or 80, there's got to be a plan for safety. And we're happy to engage in a discussion with all the sports teams.

"There's no bigger sports fan than me and I want to be able to enjoy live sports in the stands myself. But we've got to do it at a time when we know that's appropriate under the public health guidance. And we're not there yet."

The Ricketts family owns 11 of the 16 rooftop clubs surrounding Wrigley Field.
