Sox win as José Abreu scores on walk-off wild pitch originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago
The MVP was in the middle of it all again.
José Abreu gave the White Sox a walk-off win Sunday, ending the series finale with the Kansas City Royals by scampering home on a wild pitch and miraculously evading a tag to score the winning run in a 4-3 final.

Abreu's heads-up base-running play came moments after Yoán Moncada seemed to perhaps have cost the White Sox a chance to win in regulation by blowing through Joe McEwing's stop sign and being thrown out at home plate.

But this play at the plate went in the home team's favor.
That close play was not without controversy, and after the game, Royals manager Mike Matheny insisted the replay review of the play was incorrect.
Regardless, the White Sox got the win, and it was only fitting that Abreu was the one to be at the center of the game-deciding play. He had himself one eventful weekend series against the Royals. He was involved in a scary-looking collision in the first game of Friday's doubleheader, needing help getting off the field and getting knocked out of the twin bill. But he was back in the lineup just one day later, adding some inspiration with a home run Saturday night.
Abreu showed no hesitation in once again putting his body on the line for the White Sox — he was hit by a pitch to get on base ahead of scoring that run in the ninth — and had teammates raving postgame about his meaning to the team.
Most Valuable Player, indeed.
