White Sox Recall Jimmy Lambert With Lucas Giolito on IL

Sox recall Jimmy Lambert, option Matt Foster originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago

The White Sox, short on starting pitching, officially recalled right-hander Jimmy Lambert from Triple-A Charlotte on Monday.

Lambert was on the White Sox taxi squad in Kansas City over the weekend. Manager Tony La Russa indicated then that Lambert would likely be in the team’s Tuesday plans, as the White Sox open a three-game series at Oakland.

The White Sox have not yet announced a starting pitcher for Tuesday. Right-hander Lucas Giolito was lined up to start the series opener before landing on the IL with a left hamstring strain.

“The Tuesday game,” La Russa said Saturday, “is dependent on what we do the next two days here with some of the guys … if we make it a bullpen game or something. Jimmy is very likely to be activated for that game.”

Lambert has posted a 4.98 ERA in Triple-A this season. He’s also made three major-league appearances, including two spot starts this year, allowing eight runs in a total of eight innings.

To make room for Lambert on the roster Monday, the White Sox optioned reliever Matt Foster to Triple-A.

As the week progresses, the White Sox will have to address more rotation questions. Their top three starting pitchers, including Giolito, are injured. Lance Lynn (right knee inflammation) is in the middle of a precautionary IL stint. The White Sox pushed back Carlos Rodón’s next start as he deals with shoulder fatigue.
