White Sox' Andrew Vaughn Set to Begin AAA Rehab Assignment

Vaughn set to begin rehab assignment with AAA Charlotte originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago

Andrew Vaughn will travel to Charlotte on Tuesday and likely begin a rehabilitation assignment with the Chicago White Sox' AAA affiliate on Wednesday, manager Tony La Russa told reporters ahead of Tuesday's matchup with the Cleveland Guardians.

Vaughn has been on the IL since May 5 with right hand bruise, suffered when he was plunked by Angels reliever Mike Mayers during an April 29 game.

Since, Vaughn has progressed well, this week logging his most productive day in the batting cage since going down.

"He's got a little soreness. But that's the soreness, not the hurtness," La Russa said. "So he's just gotta get into game competition and see how he feels."

The White Sox have set no definite timeline on Vaughn's rehab stint, instead opting to see how he progresses then proceed as appropriate.

"He's (Vaughn) eligible to be activated Thursday (May 12). I don't necessarily think we're going to hit that right on the head," general manager Rick Hahn said Monday. "But at some point in the not too distant future, we're going to have him back."

In 16 games (60 plate appearances) this season, Vaughn is slashing .283/.367/.566 and tied for the team lead in home runs (4) and RBI (12).
