White Sox' A.J. Pollock Expects to Return Soon From Hamstring Injury

Why Pollock thinks hamstring injury will be 'short-term' originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago

The injury bug has bitten the White Sox again this season, and it’s got its teeth in deep. Just a few hours after Tony La Russa announced Lucas Giolito would miss at least two starts with an abdominal strain, the White Sox had another player hurt themselves mid-game. This time it was A.J. Pollock who tweaked his hamstring while taking a hard turn around first base on a single.

Pollock grimaced on his way back to the base and had to be replaced by Andrew Vaughn, but after the game Pollock insinuated the injury may have looked worse than it felt.

“Just a little bit of a tweak,” Pollock said. “It’s not too bad, it’ll be fine. Just felt a little uncomfortable around first there.”

Pollock dealt with two hamstring injuries last season, so the decision to sit came from a cautious approach.

“Last year, by the end of the year, I couldn’t even walk.

“I realized last year, I had a little thing that was supposed to be a two, or three day thing. I was back in two, or three days, and then I reaggravated it. So I just want to take care of it, and then be done with it, and just concentrate on the bulk of the season.”

Pollock was set to go on paternity leave following the team’s series finale against the Tigers on Sunday, so if there was ever such a thing as a “good time” for a minor injury, one could suppose this is it. While Pollock couldn’t say whether his tweaked hamstring would keep him out of the lineup when he returns from paternity leave later next week, he did say he expected the injury would be more of a short-term issue than a long-term concern.

“I know when it’s bad, and I know when it’s just something I’ve got to stay on top of, and take care of,” Pollock said. “Short term, I’m pretty confident it’s that.”
