Ron Gardenhire Thinks White Sox Have Good Chance to Win Division Title

Why Ron Gardenhire thinks Sox can win A.L. Central originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago

If you ask Ron Gardenhire, he thinks the White Sox have as good a chance as any to win the A.L. Central when the regular season is wrapped up. Gardenhire shared his thoughts with Chuck Garfien and Ozzie Guillen on White Sox Pregame Live, Saturday afternoon.

“I look at this ballclub right here (the White Sox), and I’ve said they can play with anybody,” Gardenhire said. “This lineup, it’s non-stop all the way one through nine, and they have pitching.”

“I think the Twins have a little pitching problem right now,” Gardenhire said. “I would say the lead would probably be these guys right here (the White Sox), because they can do so many things offensively, and that’s not shorthanding the Twins. They can really hit too. So can Cleveland. Very good baseball teams.

“But the pitching we’ve seen here has been really good. Their defense has been really good. This team definitely has a chance to do what they do.”

Gardenhire might be especially high on the White Sox, since his Detroit Tigers have struggled mightily against the South Siders this season. After Sunday’s sweep, the Tigers have gone 1-8 against the White Sox. However, they’ve done much better against the other division rivals: 4-4 against the Twins, 2-4 against the Indians and 2-2 against the Royals.

As things stand now, the White Sox are atop the division with a one game lead over the Twins. With 14 games remaining, the White Sox magic number to win the division is 13. With their next four days coming against the Twins, the White Sox will have their chance to lower that number drastically.
