On Wednesday, Jason Kay, editor-in-chief of The Hockey News, reported that a hospital in Edmonton was forced to close its doors after experiencing a "full-facility" COVID-19 outbreak.
Also according to Kay, NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly doesn't think, "at this point", that the outbreak will impact the league's hub city announcement.
Earlier on Wednesday, The Edmonton Journal learned from Alberta Health Services that "Edmonton's Misericordia Hospital is effectively shutting its doors to the public to battle a 'full facility' COVID-19 outbreak that has now left three patients dead and another 20 patients and 15 staff infected.
Edmonton, along with Toronto, was reportedly chosen as a hub city to host the NHL's return under a 24-team playoff format after the league paused on March 12 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Team training camps leading up to the tournament are scheduled to start Monday with the playoffs expected to begin on August 1.

The Blackhawks are slated to take on the Oilers in a best-of-five play-in series in Edmonton when the postseason begins.
