MLB Power Rankings 2021: Cubs, White Sox Start June Strong

MLB Power Rankings 2021: Cubs, Sox surging in June originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago

Remember 2020? MLB's regular season was only 60 games before an expanded postseason tournament.

MLB recently eclipsed the 60-game mark in the 2021 season and we're a long way from the playoffs in this full, 162-game campaign.

But the early days of June are providing possible October previews, especially this week.

The AL Central-leading White Sox open a three-game series Monday against the Rays, who lead baseball in wins. This weekend, the South Siders head west for a series against the Astros, second in a close AL West.

The Sox' North Side counterparts, the Cubs, open a four-game series in Queens against the NL East-leading Mets on Monday.

The standings across baseball may look a lot different by October, but this week is a small reminder of the marathon nature of 2021, compared to last season's sprint.

Here's how all 30 teams stack up in the MLB Power Rankings after the second week of June.
