MLB Fines Cubs' Javy Báez for Taunting Reds' Amir Garrett

Báez fined, no suspension for taunting Garrett originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago

Major League Baseball fined Cubs shortstop Javy Báez an undisclosed amount for taunting Amir Garrett in a celebration in Monday's win over the Reds.

Báez avoided a suspension.

Báez hit a walk-off single vs. Garrett in the ninth inning Monday, yelling at the Reds lefty as he walked up the first base line. He rocked his bat back and forth in a sweeping motion, later gesturing for Garrett to leave the field.

Báez and Garrett have shared several heated moments in recent seasons, two of which have led to bench-clearing incidents, including in May 2021.

Garrett struck out Anthony Rizzo, directing a celebration at Rizzo and drawing the ire of Báez, who hopped the Cubs' dugout rail.

Garrett was fined and served a five-game suspension after that incident, while Báez was fined.
