Lions Asked Rams for Aaron Donald in Exchange for Matthew Stafford, LOL

Lions asked Rams for Aaron Donald in exchange for Stafford originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago

Aaron Donald just won his third Defensive Player of the Year award, despite Steelers and J.J. Watt's objections that T.J. Watt should've won.

He's as close to Patrick Mahomes as exists on the defensive side of the ball (just edging out Khalil Mack, in our totally not biased opinion).

So needless to say, he is a franchise cornerstone... which makes the fact that the Detroit Lions asked for Donald in Matthew Stafford trade discussions so incredibly silly.

As Michael Scott would say, "You miss 100% of the shots you don't take. - Wayne Gretzky."

But in a Donald-Stafford trade, the Lions would have to be the franchise sending along draft picks and potentially other players to land Donald. No way was Stafford-Donald going to end player-for-player or with the Lions getting the, uh, lion's share of the trade.

Perhaps it was just the starting point, ask for the world and then the Rams would counter with a package that was better than what their initial offer would've been. Always better to aim high and settle then get a low offer and have to work your way up.

But still, the Lions asking for Donald in exchange for Stafford can make Bears fans giggle.
