Former Bull Kris Dunn quickly finds new home with Hawks originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago
That didn't take long.
Days after the Bulls didn't tender a qualifying offer to him, Kris Dunn entered unrestricted free agency and verbally agreed to a two-year, $10 million deal with the Hawks. A league source confirmed Dunn's decision, which was first reported by ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
Dunn, 26, averaged 10.7 points and 5.1 assists in 149 games with the Bulls, including 119 starts. As one of the centerpieces of the transformative trade that sent Jimmy Butler to the Timberwolves and plunged the Bulls into a full rebuild, Dunn established himself as a stalwart defensive presence. But he battled injuries and offensive struggles and the new management regime chose not to extend a $7.1 million to Dunn despite him almost making the second All-Defense team last season.
Coincidentally, Dunn and Hawks' All-Star guard Trae Young own some history. Young scored 49 points during a classic, four overtime game that the Bulls won in Atlanta on March 1, 2019. Two days later, in the rematch at the United Center, Young got ejected after logging just 18 minutes for taunting Dunn and receiving two technical fouls.
Now, Dunn projects to back up Young on an intriguing Hawks roster.
