Goran Dragić Reportedly a Buyout Candidate for Bulls

Goran Dragić reportedly a buyout candidate for Bulls originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago

A few hours under the trade deadline buzzer, the Spurs agreed to trade Thad Young to the Raptors in exchange for Goran Dragić, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Dragić, also per Wojnarowski, is now a buyout candidate with San Antonio, and the Chicago Bulls are among the teams with interest once he hits the market (along with the Mavericks, Bucks and Clippers):

While Yahoo! Sports' Chris Haynes reports the Mavericks are the favorites to land Dragić, Marc Stein reports there will be competition for his services. So Bulls fans should temper their expectations, but monitor the veteran guard's status all the same.

Dragić would be a curious fit in the Bulls' already-crowded backcourt. When healthy, Lonzo Ball, Zach LaVine, Alex Caruso, Coby White and Ayo Dosunmu make five capable guards in the rotation. The frontcourt, meanwhile, is thin at power forward and behind Nikola Vučević at center.

That said, Ball (knee surgery rehab) and Caruso (wrist surgery rehab) are expected out at least another month, and Dosunmu is currently in concussion protocol, leaving that position on the depth chart depleted. Dragić would be a more than capable fill-in. To sign any free agent on the buyout market, the Bulls would first need to waive a player.

Dragić, 35, appeared in just five games for the Raptors this season after being included in the Kyle Lowry sign-and-trade with Miami last offseason. He averaged 13.4 points, 4.4 assists and shot 37.3 percent for the Heat last season.
