Former Cubs Outfielder Kyle Schwarber Agrees to Deal With Phillies

The Phillies have agreed to a deal with former Cubs outfielder Kyle Schwarber, NBC Sports Philadelphia's Jim Salisbury reported Wednesday.

Philadelphia has been linked to Schwarber throughout the offseason, with Salisbury reporting the Phillies were in "full pursuit" of him before the lockout started in December.

Bryce Harper endorsed a potential Schwarber signing this week when discussing the Phillies potentially signing one of the ex-Cubs hitters on the free agent market.

“I think all three are winners,” Harper told reporters, including CBS Philly. “I think they’ve proven that. Schwarber, of course, he won in Chicago, did a great job for the Red Sox last year, and the Nationals. He’s a winner as a player."

Schwarber put together a career year in 2021 after the Cubs non-tendered him last offseason. He made his first All-Star team, hitting .266/.374/.554 with 32 home runs and 71 RBIs between the Nationals and Red Sox.

The Cubs were among the teams to show interest in Schwarber in recent days, NBC Sports Chicago's David Kaplan reported. They've agreed to a deal with another outfielder — Japanese free agent Seiya Suzuki.
