Two of the Cubs' seven Gold Glove Award nominees took home the honor earlier this week, and the club was honored further for its defensive prowess on Friday.

Rawlings named the Cubs the National League winner of the team Gold Glove Award.

Due to the uniqueness of the 2020 season, Gold Glove Award winners this season were determined by SABR's Defensive Index, rather than both SDI, and managers' and coaches' votes. The Cubs finished first in MLB in team SDI (21.9), which combines several defensive metrics into one rating.

Further, the Cubs finished third in baseball in FanGraphs "Def" metric (15.8), which measures defensive value relative to league average. They finished sixth in Defensive Runs Saved (23) and seventh in errors (30).

Shortstop Javier Báez (first) and first baseman Anthony Rizzo (fourth) took home Gold Gloves on Tuesday, while Kyle Hendricks, Alec Mills, Willson Contreras, Nico Hoerner and Jason Heyward were finalists.
