Jason Adam requires ambulance for leg injury in Iowa originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago
The Cubs bullpen depth was dealt another blow Friday afternoon when right-hander Jason Adam, who made nine appearances for the Cubs before a recent demotion to Triple-A Iowa, suffered a leg injury that appeared to be serious during batting practice in Iowa.
Adam, who had made three scoreless appearances for the I-Cubs, was near second base during BP when he suffered what appeared to be a freak, non-contact injury that was serious enough he was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital, according to Cubs sources in St. Louis.
His injury occurred the same day the Cubs put left-handed reliever Justin Steele (2.03 ERA) on the injured list because of a hamstring injury suffered Thursday against the Nationals.

Left-hander Brad Wieck was recalled from Iowa to take Steele’s place in a Cubs bullpen that entered day with a 3.16 ERA that ranked fourth in the majors (second in National League) and an innings total (173 2/3) that ranked second in the NL.
Adam, who had an 8.22 ERA for the Cubs this season after producing a 3.29 ERA for the Cubs’ division winners last year, was signed as a free agent before last season.
