Cubs pitcher Alec Mills added a three-inning victory in relief Wednesday night to an increasingly varied resumé he’s putting together already this season alone.

Kris Bryant was back in right field for the second consecutive game Thursday after an impressive turn there Wednesday in just the second outfield start this year for the All-Star third baseman.

And when Joc Pederson (left wrist) went on the injured list before Thursday’s game against the Mets, it underscored how much more valuable Bryant’s versatility suddenly becomes for a team that already was leaning on a handful of especially versatile players for its best chance to win this year.

“I thought he’s done a great job and looks really natural out there,” manager David Ross. “That’s a really big value.”

Who else has that kind of added value that the Cubs will need as they go through a long season that will get much longer very fast if their questionable depth gets tested by too many more injuries?
