Cubs Pay Tribute to Theo Epstein With Special Video, Wrigley Marquee Message

Cubs pay tribute to Theo with special video, marquee message originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago

Theo Epstein's resignation as Cubs team president became official on Friday, ending his nine-year tenure on the North Side.

Epstein ushered in one of the most successful eras of Cubs baseball, with five postseason appearances in six seasons, capped off by the club's first World Series title since 1908 in 2016. His legacy in Chicago is secure, and the Cubs paid tribute to him on Friday as he moves on to other endeavors.

The Cubs' historic marquee outside Wrigley Field displayed a "Thank you, Theo" message.

The club's Twitter account also posted a video, narrated by Epstein, looking back on his Cubs tenure, starting with when team chairman Tom Ricketts introduced him to the media in October 2011.

"It was a chance to build something special from the bottom up in a place where it would have more meaning than anywhere else," Epstein said of his time with the Cubs.

The video shows a timeline of Epstein and Co.'s major acquisitions since 2012, as clips play showing Joe Maddon, Kris Bryant, Kyle Hendricks, Anthony Rizzo, Javy Báez and more in their earliest days as Cubs.

A clip of the final out from the 2016 World Series plays too, of course.

The video ends with a fitting on-screen message to Epstein: "You redefined what it means to be a Cubs fan. Thank you, Theo."

Cheers to nine great years.
