Cubs' Kris Bryant Scratched From Lineup With Left Wrist, Ring Finger Soreness

Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant was scratched from Thursday's lineup with left wrist and left ring finger soreness.

Bryant rolled his wrist on a diving attempt in the fifth inning while playing left field on Wednesday. He stayed in the game, hitting a home run in the sixth, before being removed for defense in the eighth.

"I'm okay, I'm fine. It doesn't feel great, but that's what happens when you dive in the outfield," Bryant said postgame. "A lot of the times, you're rolling your wrists all over."

Cubs manager David Ross said he's trying to be "extra cautious" with Bryant, similar to how Kyle Schwarber was scratched (right knee contusion) from Wednesday's lineup.

"I don't think there's a great deal of concern. He dove and hit a home run right after that, probably one of the hardest balls he's hit this year," Ross said Thursday. "Abundance of caution, making sure everything checks out.

"When you've got little bumps and bruises, it can create some bad habits if it's in your mind. Just want to make sure he's good to go."

Bryant was originally listed as Thursday's leadoff hitter, playing left field. Schwarber, who was originally out of the starting lineup, is now starting in left, hitting fifth. Second baseman Nico Hoerner will lead off.
