Heyward, Marisnick to start rehab assignment originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago
Cubs outfielders Jason Heyward and Jake Marisnick will join the Triple-A Iowa Cubs Wednesday on rehab assignment, manager David Ross announced Tuesday.
The pair, recovering from hamstring strains, is scheduled to meet the Chicago Cubs in San Francisco after their rehab stint. The Cubs play a four-game series against the Giants beginning Thursday.
The Cubs still have 12 players on the injured list, but first baseman Anthony Rizzo (back tightness) returned to the lineup Tuesday after missing six straight games.
Weathering an injury spike, the Cubs still logged a 19-8 record in the month of May. Heyward and Marisnicks’ upcoming returns come in the middle of the toughest stretch of the Cubs’ schedule, which includes two series against the Padres and a trip to LA to play the Dodgers.
