Cubs Injury Update: Austin Romine, Rowan Wick Progressing

Injury update: Romine takes next step, Wick ‘looks good’ originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago

The Cubs could have some roster decisions to make soon, as a couple of their players on the 10-day injured list make progress in their recoveries.

Backup catcher Austin Romine (right knee sprain) left for South Bend on Monday, Cubs manager David Ross announced. Romine had been working out at Wrigley Field – taking batting practice, running the bases and going through catching drills. But a trip to the alternate site gives him the chance to take live batting practice.

Reliever Rowan Wick (left oblique strain) is likely further behind. He remains in Arizona building up his pitch count, after the lingering injury delayed him in spring training.

“Looks really good,” Ross said Monday. “All the reports I’m getting sound good.”

Ross said the Cubs do not have a set plan for when Wick will head to South Bend.

The Cubs have not announced a timeline for Romine’s or Wick’s returns. On Thursday, both will become eligible to be activated from the IL.
