The Cubs on Friday activated infielder Matt Duffy off the COVID-19 related IL, sending Ildemaro Vargas to the alternate site in a corresponding move.

Duffy, 30, was one of four Cubs players to hit the COVID-19 related IL earlier this week, along with relievers Jason Adam, Dan Winkler and Brandon Workman. Adam has since been activated, rejoining the club Wednesday.

After Duffy hit the list on Tuesday, manager David Ross said none of the four Cubs players have tested positive for COVID-19. However, following two coaches testing positive (Craig Driver, Chris Young), the club has been exercising caution with anyone with possible COVID symptoms.

"If you have a headache, if you have a runny nose, if you have body aches," Ross said Tuesday, "if you have just about anything going on that would or could be one of the [approximate] 10 COVID symptoms, we're going to err on the side of caution."

Duffy is 1-for-8 at the plate in seven games this season.
