The Cubs’ starting outfield trio is back together. Centerfielder Ian Happ (left rib bruise) returned from the injured list on Saturday.
At Detroit on Saturday, Happ is penciled in to start in center and bat sixth in the lineup. To make room for Happ’s return, the Cubs designated infielder Ildemaro Vargas for assignment.
Happ landed on the IL after a collision with second baseman Nico Hoerner at Cincinnati two weeks ago. Hoerner (left forearm strain) returned from the IL on Friday.
