The Bulls celebrated Martin Luther King Jr. with multiple initiatives before and during a home matchup with the Houston Rockets.

Monday morning, the team announced its inaugural MLK Legacy Honorees, three Chicagoans who, per a release, "embody the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and demonstrate innovative strategies to address persistent challenges to achieving social justice and equity."

All three shared stories emblematic of their work in their respective fields through the Bulls social media channels:

  • Dr. Brittani James: Assistant Professor of Family Medicine at the University of Illinois at Chicago; Co-founder & Executive Director of The Institute of Antiracism in Medicine
  • Carmita Semaan: Founder and President of the Surge Institute
  • Nia Lambert: Co-founder of NAV Garden for Girls; senior at Whitney Young High School

Bulls guard Garrett Temple was the one to notify them of being selected in a surprise Zoom call:

Before the Rockets game, Bulls and Rockets players alike donned Martin Luther King Day-themed warmup jerseys and broadcast a stirring rendition of "Lift Every Voice and Sing" performed by Tarrey Torae:

Rookie Patrick Williams walked in wearing a sweatshirt honoring Dr. King, emblazoned with the words "I have a dream."
