Bulls' Coby White Makes Cameo at North Carolina Basketball Practice

Coby White makes cameo at first UNC practice of season originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago

"Back home wit it."

Words posted by Coby White to his Instagram story upon his return to the Dean Smith Center Wednesday afternoon, where, per a report from Adam Lucas of GoHeels.com, the Bulls guard and North Carolina grad dropped into the Tar Heels' first practice of the season.

Lucas has the details of White's contributions. Though he's now nearly two years removed from his time at Chapel Hill, White played by the same rules as his college counterparts and led his side to victory.

White spent just one season at UNC, averaging 16.1 points and 4.1 assists per game before being selected No. 7 overall in the 2019 NBA Draft by the Bulls. His bond with head coach Roy Williams runs deep. He canned a Bulls-record-for-a-quarter seven 3-pointers in the fourth period of a November 2019 win over the New York Knicks with Williams in attendance at the United Center, which led to this touching postgame moment.

As for this offseason, White had been in Chicago for the last few months, first getting limited individual workouts in at the Advocate Center, then participating in the Bulls' voluntary offseason minicamp from mid-September to early October.

For the time being, it appears he's back home for a spell as the NBA enters an uncertain offseason. White was born and raised in Goldsboro, N.C., roughly 80 miles southeast of Chapel Hill, and still has plenty of family in the area.

From the Bulls' minicamp, he reported being laser-focused entering his second season after his rookie year yielded a late-season scoring explosion and an All-Rookie second team nod. Starting point guard duties are on his mind.

"I think my goal for next year is to be better than I was last year. That's my primary goal is just to continue to get better," White said. "And, you know, who doesn't want to be the starting point guard in training camp? That's my goal, that's what I want to achieve. And I'm just going to keep working towards that to get that achievement for myself."
