Seth Jones officially inks eight-year extension with Hawks originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago
The Blackhawks have officially signed defenseman Seth Jones to an eight-year, $76 million contract extension that kicks in for the 2022-23 season, the team announced Wednesday. His cap hit will be $9.5 million and includes a full no-movement clause throughout.
Jones agreed to the terms with Chicago on Friday, but the deal wasn't signed until Wednesday to account for the eighth year. He had one year left on his current contract that carries a $5.4 million cap hit.

Here's a breakdown of Jones' eight-year contract, according to Cap Friendly:
- Year 1: $9.25 million signing bonus, $750,000 in base salary
- Year 2: $5 million signing bonus, $7.5 million in base salary
- Year 3: $5 million signing bonus, $7.5 million in base salary
- Year 4: $5 million signing bonus, $5.5 million in base salary
- Year 5: $1 million signing bonus, $7 million in base salary
- Year 6: $5 million signing bonus, $2.5 million in base salary
- Year 7: $5 million signing bonus, $2.5 million in base salary
- Year 8: $5 million signing bonus, $2.5 million in base salary
Jones, 26, was acquired by the Blackhawks on NHL Draft day in exchange for defenseman Adam Boqvist, the No. 12 overall selection (Cole Sillinger), a second-round selection in 2021 and a first-round pick in 2022. The Blackhawks also received the No. 32 overall pick (Nolan Allan) and a sixth-round selection in 2022.
