Bears Wide Receiver Allen Robinson on Nick Foles: ‘He’s a Competitor’

Bears players and coaches have to walk a fine line when commenting on Mitch Trubisky and Nick Foles over the next couple of weeks. With a quarterback competition underway in Chicago, and with no indication of who the winner will be, pass-catchers like Allen Robinson have to be careful with their words.

Robinson met with reporters during a Zoom call on Friday and spoke about the team's newest quarterback.

"He's a really good teammate, he's a competitor, just an all-around good player," Robinson said when discussing Foles. "I kind of said it in the spring and summer, you're bringing high character guys into the locker room and that's always a good thing for the team. So for us, it's just about going out there and executing no matter who's under center and just trying to make plays."

Robinson has maintained public support for Trubisky over the last two seasons, even when the former second overall pick was struggling most. But that doesn't mean A-Rob is married to Trubisky as his choice for the Bears' QB1.

"At the end of the day it's not about who is best for me, it's about what's best for the team, so it's never awkward or anything like that," A-Rob said. "Like I said before, both of those guys are great teammates."

Robinson might have the most to gain (and lose) from Chicago's quarterback competition. He's entering a contract year and needs to build off his 98-catch, 1,147-yard season in 2019 to cement himself as one of the top-10 receivers in the league. With that distinction comes a massive payday, something the Bears have yet to give Robinson this offseason.

Much has been made about Robinson's bad luck with quarterbacks throughout his career. It began in Jacksonville when he was catching YOLO passes from Blake Bortles and, if we're being honest, has continued in Chicago withTrubisky, who won't be confused for the NFL's most accurate passer anytime soon.

Any upgrade in ball placement in 2020 will be a boon for Robinson's box score and bank account, and with a quarterback competition that will focus heavily on accuracy, A-Rob will be a 'winner' regardless of who's under center in Week 1.
