Bears GM Ryan Pace on Allen Robinson Contract Extension: ‘We Want Him Here'

Ryan Pace on Allen Robinson: 'We want him here' originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago

Bears general manager Ryan Pace, speaking to WBBM AM-780 this week, expressed confidence that a contract extension will eventually get done with wide receiver Allen Robinson.

"One of the things that I'm most proud of is just the collaboration we have with Matt (Nagy) and I, and also our relationships when it comes to communicating with our players," Pace said. "It's very open, it's very honest, and we think very highly of 'A-Rob.'

"We know he wants to be here. We want him here. When you look, we have a proven track record of taking care of our guys with extensions. There have been a lot of them throughout the years at different positions and I'm confident in the process."

The Bears, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, swatted away trade inquiries about Robinson this week as the wide receiver removed pictures and references to the Bears from his Twitter and Instagram accounts. Rapoport reported the Bears and Robinson re-opened contract negotiations, though an extension was not agreed to over the weekend (though one was for running back Tarik Cohen).

Still, there continues to be momentum toward Robinson signing a multi-year extension to stay in Chicago. It makes far too much sense to not get done

As for Robinson going public with his unhappiness and frustration, Pace seemed fine with it because neither he nor Robinson expect it to impact his play on Sunday against the New York Giants.

"The way he's handled everything, none of that surprised me," Pace said. "(He's a) complete pro, leader that carries the right mindset. So none of that was surprising."
