Bears' 2020 roster coming into focus with recent release of CB Tre Roberson

Tre Roberson's time with the Bears has ended before it ever really got started.

According to The Athletic's Kevin Fishbain (with some help from the NFL transaction wire), Roberson was waived by the Bears on Tuesday afternoon:

The Bears signed Roberson, who's spent the last couple years as one of the best cornerbacks in the Canadian Football League, to a two-year deal back in January. It was the largest CFL-to-NFL contract handed out since the Dolphins gave pass rusher Cameron Wake a $5 million deal back in 2014.

On paper the move is a slightly curious one, though as Fishbain reports, it may be driven more by an injury than anything else. As the team continues to try and slim the roster down to 80 players, waiving Roberson gives a first glimpse into what the Bears' cornerback room will look like in 2020. The team currently has roster locks in Kyle Fuller, Jaylon Johnson, Buster Skrine, and Kevin Tolliver. Outside that group, Artie Burns, Duke Shelley, and rookie Kindle Vildor will go into camp competing for one or two depth/special teams roles.
