2021 MLB Odds: José Abreu, Yoan Moncada, Eloy Jiménez Among AL MVP Favorites

2021 MLB odds: Abreu, Moncada, Jiménez among MVP favorites originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago

José Abreu became the first White Sox player since Frank Thomas in 1994 to win the American League MVP. Now, he’ll attempt the same feat that ‘The Big Hurt’ accomplished in 1993 and 1994, when he won back to back AL MVP honors.

Our partners at PointsBet Sportsbook released their MVP Futures odds on Friday, and Abreu is listed at 10/1 to take home the league’s top honor in 2021 ($10 bet would win $100). Only three-time MVP Mike Trout has better odds than Abreu. Trout is the runaway favorite at +175.

The fact that Abreu is listed among the favorites shouldn’t be considered a surprise. Though, surprisingly enough, Abreu was not even on the board prior to the 2020 season. He was added in late August, then went on to become just the fourth player in White Sox history to win the award after hitting .317 and leading MLB in RBI.

Abreu isn’t the only White Sox player listed among the 25 players listed on the PointsBet Sportsbook Futures group.  Yoan Moncada, who struggled much of the 2020 season, is seen as a prime bounce back candidate and is listed at 30-1 to win the A.L. MVP ($10 bet would pay $300).

Meanwhile, Eloy Jiménez, fresh off his first career Silver Slugger Award after belting 14 home runs in 2020, is listed at 40-1 to capture the league’s most coveted award ($10 bet on Jimenez would win $400).

After their first playoff appearance since 2008, the White Sox will be trying to do something that they have never done in franchise history; capturing back to back postseason berths.  They’re among the favorites in the league to win their division, and if they do so, Abreu, Moncada, Jiménez and others could have a say in the MVP race in 2021.
