Yu Darvish Scratched From First Cubs Start

New Chicago Cubs pitcher Yu Darvish was set to make his debut for the team against the Colorado Rockies, but his first appearance in a Cubs uniform will have to wait.

That’s because Darvish, who signed a six-year contract with the Cubs in February, has come down with a stomach ailment, and has been scratched from his first Cactus League start against the Colorado Rockies.

Right-handed pitcher Alec Mills will make the start instead of Darvish as the Cubs look for their third straight win.

Darvish isn’t the only Cubs player dealing with illness. Third baseman Kris Bryant has missed the team’s last three games with an unknown ailment, and won’t be on the field in Mesa when the team takes on the Rockies. Tommy La Stella will play third base in his place as he continues to recover.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have also been struck by illness during Cactus League play, sending 25 players home due to a flu outbreak in their clubhouse.
