A baseball bat that slipped from the hands of the Miami Marlins' Giancarlo Stanton struck a young child in the stands during Wednesday afternoon's game.

"The bat went flying and hit a little guy. I hope he's alright," Comcast SportsNet announcer Len Kasper said immediately after the 6th inning pitch from Jeff Samardzija.

The boy, who Cubs spokesman Julian Green said was believed to be 3 years old, was taken to a first aid station and checked out.

The boy was not seriously injured and he and his family returned to their seats shortly before 4 p.m.

"That's a tough little kid there," Samardzija said at the post-game podium. "He came back and looked like he was having a good time. He'll have a story now for the rest of his life."

Officials let the boy keep the bat as a souvenir and the Cubs went on to beat the Marlins 9-7.
