Cubs Minor Leaguer Convicted of Assaulting Fan

An Ohio judge found a Cubs minor-league pitcher guilty of firing a baseball into the stands and injuring a fan during an on-field melee last year.

Montgomery County Common Pleas Judge Connie Price ruled against Julio Castillo, the 22-year-old from the Dominican Republic who was pitching for the Peoria Chiefs, a Cubs minor league club, against the Dayton Dragons when the bench-clearing fight erupted. The ball thrown by Castillo struck a spectator and caused a concussion.

Castillo testified in his trial that he threw the ball downward toward a dugout to try to keep opposing players from rushing the field. He says he was not throwing at anyone.
